Mark Rutte will be the next NATO Secretary after the current Stoltenberg’s term.

Other candidates were Romanian President Klous Iohannis and Estonian Prime minister Kaja Kallas (lady).

One of the first things he did was to send to Victor Orban a letter confirming that he would maintain a pledge made by Stoltenberg to allow Hungary to opt out of support for Ukraine.

With the change in the wind after the US 2024 fall elections, Rutte’s mission to maintain a strong consensus between the 32 NATO members as NATO secretary would be challanged further more.

Hungary’s firm position that seems to have opened in NATO a crack that can widen even more, Turkye’s keen interest in closing ties with Russia, The war in Ukraine, will be a carefully “to watch” list for William Rutte, the next NATO secretary.
